Very interesting, i just ordered myself some sodium butyrate and will be giving it a try. I expect it will be the kind of thing that will take some time for any improvement to become apparent, however.

please keep us updated. I am going to be asking my doctor about valproate on Tuesday.

I just started taking sodium butyrate today…Took 3 tablets so far…I’ll update on any positive progress, don’t you worry…

Could this explain why some people have been cured by taking SSRIs? Shippen himself sometimes prescribes SSRIs to post-fin sufferers, as reported here: http://www.propeciahelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1162&start=40

I dont see how SSRI’s could fix us considering they are the cause of Erectile Dysfunction for people who actively take them. I know shippen prescribes low dose SSRI, but still it’s a risk I think…

Shippen uses extremely low doses, presumably because SSRIs at very low doses solely inhibit the breakdown of allopregnanalone, without altering seratonin reuptake. Allopregnanalone is synthesized from progesterone via 5 alpha reductase type 2, and certainly, given our low Adiol-G levels, we are not synthesizing as much allopregnanalone as we used to.
