I had a quick chat with my endo over the phone yesterday regarding 5 AR testing and mentioned that there’s apparently a way to test for it through a 24hr urine analysis. His response was they simply don’t test for this enzyme and that was it. I’ll follow up with this more thoroughly when I go in for my test results next week. Has anyone had this enzyme tested? I have a feeling Propecia might’ve permanently altered the activity of 5 AR especially in those who were on the drug for a while.
I was going to ask Dr. Crisler the same thing during my visit with him today, but I’ll have to wait until tomorrow since he rescheduled me. I read somewhere that this can be tested, but I am going to ask Dr. Crisler tomorrow.
Yes you can get 5AR activity tested in a 24hr urine. Though Dr Crisler has mentioned preveiously on other forums that 5AR activity appears normal post finasteride use.
That’s reassuring to hear, maybe it’s a test not performed in Canada although I’ll find out for sure.
Please let us know how the meeting went.

Let´s just pray GOD this didn´t happened…
Please keep us posted.
I will Legend and I’ll be posting my results, trust me it’s been the longest 2 months I’ve ever endured awaiting my results.
I met with Dr. Crisler today, and he said he measures 5 alpha reductase activity by looking at ratios between a number of hormones; specifically, he mentioned pheromones and something else that I didn’t get to write down.
On a personal note, my first post-finasteride lab results of any use came in and he said that I had “a lot of 5 alpha reductase activity”.
That’s great to hear, I don’t think my endo knows too much about this enzyme judging by the conversation we had a few days ago although I will mention this too him, thanks for the info. Josh did the good doctor notice anything out of place with your results?
does anyone know for sure if a5r can be tested in a 24hr urine test? i mentioned it to my doctor and he wrote me a script for it, but the people at quest said they had never heard of such test.
