5-alpha-reductase (5AR, 5-AR) reducing conversion of progesterone to allopregnanolone

Does anybody know of any natural ways to potentially increase allopregnanlolone? I know for sure that alcohol does, but I need a healthier way. I’m thinkin’ milk, since dairy has its fair share or progesterone in it.

For anyone that doesn’t know, finasteride, by reducing 5AR, also blocks the conversion of progesterone to the metabolite allopregnanolone. I feel this played a part in my tripping over words and not beign able to come up with quick, dry humor.

I was on Propecia for 8 weeks and then stopped it completely, and I do feel much better i.e. 80% better, but I’ve been off now for 7 weeks and I can feel that I’m still not 100%. But when I go out and have an alcoholic drink, I do feel 100%. But I felt 100% before Propecia without drinking.

Interestingly, I stopped drinking dairy right at the time I started up on Propecia, thinking maybe dairy had something to do with hair thinning, although the more I research it, I’m under the impression dairy could only help.

Ethanol (alcohol) is the only thing I can think of that makes me feel 100% recovered as ethanol is known to affect GABA receptors and allopregnanolone levels. I’m thinking potentially a glass of red wine each morning could help out - but how long does alcohol stay in one’s system?
