10 Year Propecia User Wants to Quit - What the heck can I expect?

Hi all. I’m so very sorry to hear of the tragedy that this drug has caused so many men on this board.

My story:
For 10 years, I have enjoyed my rock-n-roll long hair thanks to this drug, but after finding this forum, don’t give a crap about a single strand of it sitting atop my scalp. I want my life back as I remember it. I had no idea that propecia could do so much damage to so many.

For me? Well I had migraines before propecia but they have increased in frequency and intensity (I’m now 43) and I have only one link to explain this: Propecia. Secondly, I was a sharp minded guy prior to this drug, but as I’ve perused on this forum, ‘mental dullness’ is associated with taking this drug. Lack of drive, libido (but no erection problems), all onset from 1998 when I started this drug.

Now I want to stop this drug. After being this long on the drug, how do you guys (who’ve also gone years on this stuff) suggest I stop? Will my prostrate increase in size and cause side effects that I never had previously? Since I had none of the more dastardly side-effects of propecia that others here have described, am I in for a rough ride possibly for quitting this stuff? Do I stop cold-turkey or gradually taper off the drug?

Please help me - I’m so freaked out about what I’ve read. I never want to stick another ‘treatment’ in my body after this.

Respond as soon as anyone is able.

Thank you so much,

Martin

because you have used it so long maybe you should taper off slowly so as to cause less shock to the system

I was going to taper over 4 months. Realizing that nobody on this board is a medical professional (most likely), would this be sufficient to wean myself off this drug?

Suggestions welcome, thanks,

Martin
