Zinc deficiency

Just wondering, how many people here with low T have successfully ruled out zinc deficiency as a cause?

I’ve read in some places that once one has a zinc deficiency, it can take several months of high-dose supplementation in order to correct it.

“According to some biomedical researchers, human zinc deficiency may be correctable only by a therapeutic intake of 100 to 150 mg zinc per day taken orally for a few months.”

Personally I would not consume more than 50mg per day. I recall reading that Shippen advises 2 WEEKS at 100mg, then dropping down to 50mg to maintain. 100-150mg seems insanely high to me, especially for MONTHS.

That said, anything above 50mg I personally believe could be dangerous… just my personal opinion though. Also be sure to take 2mg of copper with any extra Zinc, since the Zinc leeches the copper out of your body.

“Although we did not measure LH and follicular stimulating hormone (FSH) in this study, our previous studies in the rats showed that the baseline serum LH and FSH as well as their response to gonado-tropin releasing hormone (GnRH) administration were higher in the zinc-deficient animals, but their testosterone response was lower in comparison to controls.”

“In zinc-deficient sickle cell anemia patients and chronic uremics undergoing hemodialysis, baseline LH and FSH were higher than the LH and FSH of
controls and the serum testosterone concentration was low.”

“These observations support the concept that the effect of zinc is primarily on testicular testosterone secretion.”

This would mean that zinc deficiency might show up in blood results as more of a ‘primary’ hypogonodal pattern. That is, low T, but maybe normal/high LH and FSH.

The fact that the general post-finasteride pattern seems to be low T and low/normal LH and FSH might then indicate that zinc deficiency is truly not at issue here.

there’s ways you can find out if your zinc deficient. check online for some simple tests.

it’s very rare to be deficient in zinc.

good luck

That’s probably true of severe deficiency with overt symptoms…

I’m more concerned that we may be facing a more widespread, moderate deficiency. See this article:

womensarticles.com/article_174790_52.html

“Dr Denham Harman from University of Nebraska has sustained that 90% of the population has a diet poor in zinc, and the cause is the soil’s zinc content decrease. The herbs and vegetables that we consume daily are getting their zinc from the soil, and after several centuries of harvest, the soil, and our food, contains less and less zinc.”

I think it would be wise to heed what we’ve been hearing about zinc supplementation. If this information is correct, we have no reason to expect that a healthy diet alone will provide us with adequate zinc. From this perspective alone, we can see that zinc supplementation is fully warrented.

if that’s the case than why isn’t the rest of the population suffering from zinc deficiency?

go find out if ur zinc deficient than fix it. if ur not (which is more than likely) than you can cross that off ur list.

good luck

I would just like to add that when I take 100mg of zinc it has made me vomit on more than one occasion, as of now I just stick to whats in the multivitamin I take.

if you take a zinc supplement separately from your standard multivitamin make sure you take it WITH food as it’ll cause nausea and, from bigsoftie experienced, vomiting.

also, having too much zinc in your system will lead to a metal like taste in your mouth. not sure if u experienced it bigsoftie but i did when i was tryin the zinc theory.

Yeah, as a matter of fact my puke tasted like pennies, needless to say it was highly unpleasant.

I’m not sure how common this is, but I’ve been taking 50 mg of zinc twice a day for the last 16 days, usually about an hour after eating, and I haven’t experienced any of these problems.

That being said, I am a bit worried after reading this thread. I think I’ll cut back to 50 mg once a day.

Last I checked, my estradiol levels weren’t that bad. I’m more concerned about total estrogen, which is extraordinarily high. I know that’s not supposed to matter, but I’m concerned nonetheless.

Rockin, were you the one who told me to take Calcium D Glucamate for high total estrogen levels?
