you've gotta be kidding me

I just started taking propecia yesterday, today was my second dose and I am already feeling slight pain on my chest and down under…also notice my chest softening and swelling…this is SCARY!! I’m generally a very healthy guy…i eat right, excercise, just unfortunately got a bad gene and started losing hair. I’m 31 now and just started taking the drug. At first I was VERY hesitant as I stay away from ALL drugs(I rarely take even Advil), but my hair started thinning and I didn’t want to lose my hair, the doctor ‘convinced’ me that Propecia’s side effects are completely reversable as soon as you stop taking it.

Well, after noticing these symptoms on my SECOND day of using the drug, I immediately did some research…and stumbled upon MANY sites including this one where thousands of posters are saying how deadly this drug is. Well, I’m gonna stop using it, period…there goes my $$ for the first bottle.

On the flip side, I immediately ‘felt’ the difference on my scalp…not that hair grew back right away or anything, but when I brush thru my hair, they don’t fall out anymore!! …I think the fact that I’m very healthy has an effect to how quickly I responded to the drug…but hair or not, risking these health issues is JUST NOT WORTH IT, IMO.

I’m gonna stick it out and do a transplant instead later eventually.

reallyfun, choose a new name, because its not “really fun”. Idiot!

BTW, why don’t you spend your time go posting this on hairloss sites, because it will be MUCH more valuable to them!

And yes, we are bitter about life, so see ya later buddy!!

good call you’re 31 and have a lot ahead to look forward to. I’m 22 an although mentally im starting to recover from the drug i fear and may very well realize that i have ruined my life because of three weeks on the stuff.

Guys calm down…

If you are concerned about any future potential health effects you most likely made the right decision.

Good luck to you with your future hair loss maintenance regimens that hopefully don’t involve Finasteride or Dutasteride!

How much do you think the drug has affected you after only taking it for 3 weeks? Well, I woke up this morning and am still feeling the ‘pain’ in the 2 areas…oh well, hopefully a jog would help heal my body…

Thanks, Mew. I’m not sure if I should throw away the bottle or not as it cost me $$, I don’t think they do refunds either…

You said in your initial post you’ve only taken it twice (2 days in a row)… now you are saying 3 weeks?

Either way you should be feeling fine within another couple weeks, don’t sweat it and enjoy life.

Oh no, I was asking the question on behalf of ithappens.

i was a perfectly healthy guy before taking propecia. i was a division 1 athlete for my school, was quick witted, had a great sex drive and just was full of energy and life. i also was very good looking and had a nice build. i’ll spare you all the details but three weeks yes thats right just three weeks on the stuff changed all of that. trust me you made the right decision, i wish i would have quit after two days. you should be fine just dont take it again.

Ithappens, I know exactly how you feel. I took it for only three weeks also!!! :unamused: Unbelievable!!!

I’ve taken three pills… and i haven’t been able to put a dent in the side effects, e.g. no libido, impotency, strange tingling in lower region. I’ve been off the pills for 6 days… I’m very scared after reading the posts on this discussion forum… although i am glad that this forum is here to serve as a source of support.

I am in total shock that three of these pills could do such damage… I told my family physician about the side effects and he reacted in such a way that made me seem crazy… My physician said that none of his patients have had a reaction similar to mine, and then he just told that he didn’t know what to do…

hey man you only took 3 pills and been off for 6 days
give it another 3-4 weeks before you start worrying
take it easy

Hi, I’ve been off for several months now and I haven’t had any problems with libido, impotency…but I’m still getting what you mentioned “strange tingling” in lower region and my balls once in a while…as opposed to being constant throughout the day. Hopefully it’ll be completely gone in time.

Hope this helps. Just stay off of it and wait a while longer.

Thank you for your responses… I’ll try to relax…

Before taking propecia, I had slight acne on my face. After taking propecia, all of my acne disappeared… Trust me, I would much rather have acne than the horrific side effects of this drug. Has anyone else experienced this?

Does anyone have problems with falling asleep at night?

If you are concerned get bloodtests as outlined at top of Hormones & Bloodtests section to see what is going on. It’s the only way to know what’s going on inside your body.
