What if you can not sense any side effects?

I have taken the drug for years and although I can not sense that I am affected negatively I have now stopped the drug just in case. Isn’t this the most sensible thing to do?

The following paragraph seems to point to the user knowing whether or not they have side effects:

“What we do want,” says Dr. Irwig, “is for patients and doctors alike to understand the potential risk of persistent problems that may not, in fact, be reversible when you stop this drug. Even if there’s only one chance in 300 that it could happen to you, it’s like playing with fire. If you’re one of the 299 who don’t have problems, that’s great. But if you’re the one who does, you’re going to be kicking yourself for ever taking this medicine.”

Ten years of depriving your body of its most potent androgen has got to give you problems. Don’t panic though, you should recover. Eat healthy, get moderate exercise, and plenty of sleep.

How long have you been off the drug?

Um be greatful you are not one of us? If you don’t think you have any sides I don’t really understand exactly what the problem is. You WILL know if you do have the side effects, simple as that. Just be aware from now on that any mental/sexual/digestive/liver issues may stem from using this drug if they ever come up. At this point medical science has absolutely no idea what this drug can do long term so nobody here is gonna have any true answers to tell you regarding that.

My point was that the paragraph seems to show that if you don’t have any side effects then you are ok. I am stating, how can we possibly know what is going on underneath and if there are any problems that have not manifested yet.

I have been off it for several months. My memory may have improved but this could be due to a drastic change of lifestyle which have resulted in far less stress.

Obviously a misunderstood issue but one that certainly needs clearing up. It is quite feasible that in 10 years they will be telling us that no one should have taken the drug, whether you sense side effects or not. In fact it may be banned by then.

You might be fine staying on the drug for the rest of your life. You might wake up tomorrow with a numb penis, no sex drive and brain fog. We don’t have the answers. Nobody knows what this drug has done to those of us with persistent side effects.

With that said. I think you made an excellent decision to quit the drug and I wish you the best of health in the future.

For most the change is drastic and noticeable. You have done the cautious thing by discontinuing before developing (serious) side effects.

If you haven’t noticed the sides by now be thankful and don’t worry about this site. If you later develop problems you think are attributed to this drug, then come back. In the mean time try to live as healthy as possible to avoid undue stress.

Cheers

Exactly, noticable is putting it lightly imo. Some of us experience a crash so severe that literally overnight you become a train wreck of a person. For me it obviously coincided with my cessation of propecia, in the days building up to it I became more and more anxious up to the point where I went to a movie with my friends and upon walking out I found myself thinking “I don’t remember a single thing about the plot of the movie, because I was so nervous during it.” Then about 7-9 days after stopping it I totally crashed and fell into a state of pure dispair. There was nothing in my life going on at the time that could explain something so utterly drastic in that nature.
