Substance Abuse

I really got to thinking about this one, and it really makes me wonder if substance abuse in the past can have something with hindering people from recovering (or even getting) the side effects of propecia.

I’ll be one to admit that there are some things in the past that I’ve done that I’m not truly proud of. I was looking up stuff on adrenal fatigue and this is what I came across.

Anyone can suffer from Adrenal Fatigue at some time in his or her life. An illness, a life crisis, or a continuing difficult situation can drain the adrenal resources of even the healthiest person. However there are factors that can make you more prone to Adrenal Fatigue. These include certain lifestyles (poor diet, substance abuse, too little sleep and rest, or too many pressures), a chronic illness or repeated infections such as bronchitis or pneumonia, or a mother who suffered from Adrenal Fatigue around the time of your birth.

I wonder if maybe I should make an anonymous poll to find out about this thing?

But if anyone wants to reply to this with any confessions or arguments or anything, I would be happy.

Personally I think substance abuse has nothing to do with our problems, many on here were perfectly healthy and functional prior to the drug, no history of substance abuse, ate healthy and excercised (ie, like me).

The only change in my life was taking Finasteride. The side effects are noted on the insert. They did not resolve. What more is there to say? These problems are a direct effect of Finasteride’s method of action.

I totally agree with mew here, this is not a case of something other than propecia affecting us, our common symptoms are not a conicidense. I was in best shape of my life 3 month b4 this hit me. I worked out 8 hours a day, and hard too (had to in my jobb as a bikemessenger). I basicly never drank alcohol and i have never abused or used another drug in my entire life! 2 weeks after quitting i could hardly get out of bed.

I was very concerned with this at one point myself. I thought the connection was maybe drug use from my past made me susceptible to dopamine issues that were exacerbated by fin. I know it can affect your adrenals, hormones, etc as well but those checked out. In the end no dopamine supplements, SDRI or agonists helped. In the end the only real culprit is fin.

Strange thing - I don’t know what this adds to our understanding of susceptibility, but I was on fin for 6 months a few years back. No sides that I could tell, or at least nothing noticeable. Stopped due to funds and got on minox. A few years later I tried it again for 6 months and now I’m left with persistent sides. I had a derm who told me he had the same experience, though he recovered after stopping the second time.
