Rs279858 Gene: Possibly More Insight?

I recently got my data back from 23andme, and in addition to uploading my results to the community project, I was also interested in looking into a more generalized overview of what my genes have to say about my health. I was looking through all of the data the report sent me, and I came across one gene that they claim has interactions with Finasteride.

Personally, I’m not too sure what this could mean, but I found that the relatively low frequency (24.8%) of the gene was interesting considering that it seems like only a small subset of people suffer from PAS/PFS/PSSD etc. I couldn’t seem to find any other posts that mentioned this gene though on this site, so I thought it would be good idea to get this information across to everyone.

I believe this means that finasteride would be expected to have less of an effect in reducing the effect of alcohol for you since you are homozygous (G,G), but you would be expected to have less of an effect from alcohol due to your genotype anyway.

Hi @BearOf17 is this something that you searched on 23 and me. How do I search Rs279858 on my gene profile.

I had to use Promethease to find this. If you upload your raw 23andme data to them, they process your genome and link certain genes you have to genes recorded in SNPedia.
