I’m sitting here at work trying to figure out what natural treatments work/don’t work in recovering from any finasteride-related side effects. Maybe this should be in the natural treatments section – maybe not. Nevertheless, here are some things I’ve thought out:
-
Broccoli = the phytochemical in it that’s produced when digested (DIM) is supposed to speed up drug metabolism and acts as a potent anti androgen, blocking DHT but increasing testosterone in the process, albeit through a different route than a drug like propecia. I’ve read about the broccoli treatment, but has anyone tried this? I started on the broccoli thing three or four weeks ago so we’ll see.
-
Soy = I came across a couple websites (internationaldrugmart.com/proscar.html) that said soy isoflavones interact with Propecia and so does saw palmetto. I was on both while taking propecia, so maybe these had some sort of negative effect? Is it just the fact that soy has phytoestrogens (many foods do) and Propecia increases estrogen in men? Maybe I’m missing this but if Propecia blocks DHT, testosterone increases, so does estrogen increase b/c testosterone increases?

Has anyone actually done the fasting and/or water diet for a few days or a week? Does this work?

I’ve read grapefruits (and Seville oranges) taken while taking drugs can block the enzymes used to break down the drugs, accounting in a more potent amount of the drug in one’s body and leading to potentially more side effects. So if one took Propecia and ate grapefruits, would the Propecia just sit there in the body or would it pass through the body without doing its job?

Anything I’m missing?
