Okay to continue using Minoxidil?

Hello everyone,

I have been off for fin for 2 years now my symptoms are below:

-Low Libido
-Smaller ejaculate loads
-Semen is very very thick (used to be watery when I was on fin) thicker than before I ever took fin
-Orgams do not feel very good
-Loss of spontaneous erections
-Do not get as hard
-Possibly some penis shrinkage (hard to say if its all in my head or not)

Is it okay to continue using minoxidil? I have heard minoxidil could have an anti androgenic affect and I want to give myself the best odds of recovering. I have only using minoxidil for about 6 months. In this time frame I have not noticed any negative symptoms from using minoxidil I have actually recovered a little bit (diet has gotten way better I have lost about 10lbs and I have gotten in better shape which is why I think I am feeling a bit better than 6 months ago). I was already in good shape before but now I almost have a 6 pack and getting strong.

I heard one thing about minxoidil that sounds ridiculous but I heard it messes with your collagen and can actually effect the collagen in your penis, anyone ever heard of anything like this? Sounds ridiculous to me.

Also I am wondering what some of the best supplements are to use?

Right now I am using creatine, DIM, zinc, D3 can anyone else recommend some supplements? Thanks for the help guys

No one knows if it could affect a potential recovery.

And no one understands the mechanism by which it aids hair growth. I have also seen people speculate that it could be by an anti-androgenic mechanism.

But the thought of minoxidil being an anti-androgen is laughable. When I was on it it made my beard grow like crazy and I was getting hirsutism. I was growing hair even on my lower eyelids. It makes hair grow indiscriminately. Some guys who can’t grow facial hair rub it on their face and it thickens it up.

ashleigh and martin australia (merck owned fin. prescribers) prescribed me minoxidil and fin, they convinced me to take fin. with the same bullshit 2% story everyone else may have been unfortunate enough to receive by a similar Dr.Death. I never used the minoxidil just 12 cut tabs of fin to ruin my life. My point though, after someone and their company lied so meticulously about fin. which i have been and will be suffering from for the rest of my life i wasn’t going to chance their other harmless miracle product. do you really want to? i had to lose everything to accept going bald, i couldn’t care less if i went bald now, i just want my life back, the money would be good too.

I tried minox. a few years ago and it definitely set me back. Same with Nizoral.

Many of the side effects experienced by guys who’ve taken propecia sound ridiculous to those on the outside. I’ve also read quite a few anecdotal stories of guys who believe that minoxidil adversely effected their collagen and after my own experiences my tendencies are to err on the side of believing them, as most pharmaceuticals come with some kind of pay off. I’ve also read somewhere that there is some scientific literature out there that backs this up (minoxidil/collagen), although this might just be hearsay.

As you’ll know yourself, you may very well be okay, but having learnt from propecia, the risk, no matter how small, is definitely real. It’s up to you if you want to gamble on another pharmaceutical for hairloss.

What I’ve read is that it inhibits an enzyme necessary for collagen synthesis. There was only one study published on the topic and I don’t remember if it went into much detail. ie if collagen production is actually significantly reduced. Just browsing wikipedia, it seems like everything, including most foods, are enzyme inhibitors. And half of the guys on hair loss forums have such severe BDD that it’s hard to know what information to trust. The only side effects I noticed (besides hirsutism, which isn’t really a side effect since it’s a hair growth agent) were water retention and itchy scalp.

I think I may discontinue minoxidil. I do have some mental things I am going to have to deal with because I really have not accepted the fact that I am going to be bald… Which is what lead me to try finasteride in the first place.

But having a healthy sexual life is more important to me than having hair…

Hopefully I can still eventually find a girl that will like me, wish me luck haha

I searched and it doesn’t look like minoxidil crosses the blood brain barrier. To me that’s likely the most important thing. However, I’m not sure if its metabolites do or not.

Its active form is actually minoxidil sulfate. That is why some people respond to it and others do not. Some people do not readily convert it to its active form.
