Note: Recovery was more mental than actual, and a bit premature to be honest

Iodine did the trick for me for about a week. Cleared up my eyes, felt energetic, outgoing, social. Then I started to crash and was completely worn out. Had to stop supplementing. :frowning:

did iodine help for sex ?

but only temporarily. it got me feeling normal again until I crashed

Maybe you went too much in the other direction with your thyroid? Maybe once you get back to baseline you can take half a pill every other day or something to that order. Maybe that will keep you where you need to be? Just a thought.

hi MARTIN M,how much iodine are you using per day?

Looks like you were in the same situation as I am atm. Do you know any other iodine products sold out there? I can’t find Iodoral in my home country :frowning:. Perhaps there are other options?
Thanks!
Btw, did you try zinc or other vitamins and food additives that aid brain work?

try this thing call ‘lugols iodine’
sounds like what you guys had was a thyroid issue , maybe it was aggrevated by propecia.
try the forums over at curezone.com , they have a thyroid section that may help you out , i believe they also have a forum just for iodine supplementation.

Do this kind of errors come up in blood tests? I’m getting one done on Monday. There really seems nothing else I can do about my condition.

12.5mg a day? Is that how much you took?

I have the 12.5mg tablets and have been breaking them in half and taking 1/2 a pill every other day. Maybe that wasn’t enough, but at least 3 times I had some kind of breakthrough where I had these emotional rushes of feelings where I felt like my old self, but never for more than a few hours and sometimes for only a few minutes. Maybe my dose is too low?

I also had a major improvement taking iodine that did not lasted too long. At first I used kelp tablets and then I switched to lugol’s iodine drops. When I take it I use to notice some improvement in brain issues.
My thoughts is that I may have thyroid antibodies although I haven´t been tested for them. It can be a valid explanation as to why the effect was not sustained.

iodine improves my simptoms too,but all my thiroids and paratyroids tests are fine… so maybe as ithappens told in one of his theory,we could have adrenals issue and ipotyroidism issue … just a thought .

OK, I am about to go out to Krogers and buy some seaweed and Iodoral. Will let you know how it affects me after a week or so, i’m pretty bad right now.

Ok, i bought Kelp capsules with 400mcg 267% DV of iodine. How did you get 2000%+ DV? Isn’t that way over the recommended and can’t that cause health problems?

I also bought zinc 50mb, 333% DV supplements. I think I am going to wait a few weeks before taking zinc and stick with the kelp only so that I can have a controlled experiment.

My symptoms are similar to yours, I don’t have sexual side effects, just brain fog, slurred speech, etc. so we will see what happens.

EDIT: OK, i just read some of your posts again. It seems you were taking way above the recommended amount. I am willing to take the risk, but the problem is that I can’t find kelp or seaweed in any local store. How can I consume my 8,000% DV? Is there a place I can order online? Should I take maybe 3 of the 400mcg capsules per day?

EDIT#2: OK, I guess Iodoral would be my best bet. I found a website that sells it: joemuscle.com/P107002321.asp … =107002321

I took 50mg of Iodoral for 5.5 months, and then upped the dose to 150mg for 2.5 months, for a total of 8.5 months on Iodoral – February 9, 2009 to October 16, 2009. While my speaking is definitely better, in my opinion the Iodoral did not do anything. I think the positive change might be due to me drastically cutting my soy consumption. In my opinion, Iodoral seems a bit excessive and unnatural. If you look at any seaweed/sea vegetable at the store, most are more or less around the RDA of 150mcg. Even kelp, with the highest amount, is several mg max. A Dr. Allen Gaby wrote several rebuttals to Dr. Abraham of Iodoral, and Gaby makes more sense for sure.

From my own experience, the only side effect I had from that much Iodoral for eight months was a feeling in my neck every once in a while where it felt like my breathing was subpar, and I’d have to look up in order to breathe better. I felt this for the first time in early August, a couple weeks after I upped the dose to 150mg.

Which brings us to why I’m still not 100% – 50% in my opinion. Glimmers of my old speaking self are here, but not 100% fluid like before. I think the 8.5 months on high soy caused subclinical hypothyroidism in me, according to thyroid hormone tests, and the 8.5 months on Iodoral continued this. Saturday, October 17, 2009 was my first day since May 24, 2008 where I was not on Iodoral or soy. I only consume soy 2-4 times a week now, and in moderate servings. I’m done with that all-or-nothing approach and am back to a natural diet like I was in spring 2008. I’ve been off of everything for 18 days now.

I wouldn’t call my speech slurred but rather choppy and the way I convey questions and statements isn’t as fluid or witty in general. My writing is not affected. It doesn’t really affect me when I’m in the midst of conversation, such as at a bar, but really only affects me when I start up conversation, like at the checkout of the store or restaurant, or even talking to my friends, parents, or brothers.

Well that sucks … I just spent $30 on iodine products and now you say that wasn’t what helped you …

High soy consumption is linked to an increase in estrogen. Do you think that may have a play in all of this for you Kirra?

Well he did name himself Kirra!!

You might want to change the title of this thread too btw.

Sorry for the delay in posting guys. I started taking half the recommended dose, I don’t remember the exact amount. It was too much for me. After crashing I started with Seaweed but it was still too much :frowning:

CDNuts – Perhaps the massive amounts of soy could’ve increased the estrogen levels in me and caused the problems. Either that, or it affected iodine uptake in my thyroid. Everything in moderation now.

MartinM – Any seaweed shouldn’t have adverse effects on you. You can get iodine from seafood as well.

Kirra,

I get seaweed salad sometimes at whole foods. If I get too much, more than a volume portion of 2 in x 2 in x 2 in I get the same effect. It goes directly to the head like caffeine. MB it’s the adrenals worn out?

I just checked the package of the previous supplement I was taking one drop of the kelp derived mixture about 25 mcg.
