See, I wasn’t aware of this either.
How much does it actually cost to take part in the Texas one? Can we have some clarification of the costs and payments required/made for each study? There seems to be a lot of confusion.
Hey man, good luck with your exams.
Great to hear that you’re planning to apply for the studies once your exams are over. You’re making an extremely wise choice, and a direct investment in your future.
Here are some more quick ideas on how to recruit the additional patients for the studies.
(1) Organise an Italian translation of the adverts and get a professional Italian translation of the application forms for the studies. Why? It looks like there is a large pool of PFS sufferers in Italy, who have been up for making the right choice and participating in studies - as can be seen from this latest study. However, they may not be fully aware of the studies that are going on in the US, if they can’t read English very well.
(2) If there is specific money set aside for funding study costs/flights/accommodation - make a specific advert for this, for the front page.
(3) Or, alternatively, produce a list of people are willing to fund study costs/flights/accommodation, to get the participants needed. The reason this is effective - when you donate to a charity, if you can directly envisage the contribution you are making, you are more likely to donate.
This is why TV ads for African aid usually feature the very specific benefits that you will provide to a specific child/village/community. E.g. “Your gift will fund X amount of vaccinations, preventing X number of children from suffering from X disease”. “Your gift will help fund X new wells to be built in X number of remote villages, meaning local people don’t have to travel X miles a day for water”. “Your gift will help X number of children receive schooling for a year”. Etc. You could apply or adapt this in lots of ways.
Just chucking ideas out there. Please contribute what you can to the PFSF.
I sent an e-mail to Yesenia at Baylor April 28th and didn’t get a response. Is that typical? I just sent an e-mail to the PFS foundation and got a response right away. However they directed me to the document online that says to contact Yesenia. Did you guys e-mail or call?
Also I agree about the costs… Did you all get details on the cost?
I like your ideas, however according to:
The top 10 languages are:
1: English
2: German
3: Japanese
4: Portuguese
5: Italian
6: Spanish
7: Polish
8: Dutch
9: French
10: Korean
This is based on the location of logins the foundation’s website. According to my own research there’s a disproportionate number of PropeciaHelp members from Brazil and Poland, which explains why Portuguese is 4th and Polish is 7th.
I’m sure some members would translate for free.
what the fuck? where is the $800 coming from to pay you for this?
The main reason I think Italy would work is that they’ve already had a clear “lock in” from their studies - people have already participated in studies in that country, and there is established willingness to participate in studies. The deficit has come from the English-speaking countries - USA, UK, Australia, etc. I don’t know of any studies that have taken place in Germany, Japan, Portugal… the groundwork has already been done, to an extent, in Italy.
What do you reckon mate? We just need to solve this shit by any means possible. (The most direct means is just by people taking part in these studies.)
Gelhead makes a good point. The study referenced in the original post in this thread mentions 69 test subjects with persistent side effects from Finasteride. So they already have access to at least 69 people that are willing to undergo testing. Of course, getting these people to the US is a different thing. But in Italy there is already some sort of infrastructure/organizing present to recruit people. So it could be helpful to leverage that network.
I am willing to participate in any studies possible although I do not have the funds to travel/stay overnight for the tests.
If there are any tests in Ontario, Canada. I would be more than happy to go. Other than that I am unable to go unless my expenses would somehow be covered. Sorry guys I wish I could help more.
Dear bradv1800,
please apply for the studies! They are not in Canada, they are in the US. We need people who are willing and able to show up at those studies. The money issue can be solved. Please refer to this thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9208
Thanks!
Please go if you are in Canada, its not that much farther.
I’m willing to participate and travel. Where do I apply?

Case report from Japan.
Two cases of stroke associated with the use of finasteride,an approved drug for male-pattern hair loss in Japan.

Abstract
We report two cases of stroke associated with the use of finasteride at 1 mg/day, which is approved in Japan for the treatment of male-pattern hair loss. The first case involved a 35-year-old male taking 1 mg of finasteride daily for 6 months to prevent male-pattern hair loss. He was taken to a hospital and later admitted to our hospital owing to headache and seizures. Brain computed tomography (CT) images showed a low-density area in the right frontal lobe. CT venography (CTV) revealed sinus thrombosis and he was treated with an anticoagulant. As the headache gradually subsided, medications were tapered and terminated 10 months later when venous flow to the sagittal sinus and left transverse sinus was confirmed to be recanalized. The second case involved a 41-year-old male taking 1 mg of finasteride and 6 mg of minoxidil daily for 1 year for male-pattern hair loss. He started having headaches and was admitted to our hospital when diffusion-weighted images of brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a high-intensity area in the left parietotemporal lobe. He was treated with antiplatelet and anticoagulation medicines. The Japan Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) has reported 14 cases of thrombosis in patients taking finasteride in Japan; 4 cases of stroke (our 2 cases and 2 reported by PMDA), 6 cases of myocardial infarction, and 4 cases of other thrombotic diseases. Increases in estrone and estradiol levels in prostate cancer patients and controls receiving 5 mg of finasteride have been reported. Gynecomastia has also been reported as one of the adverse effects of finasteride at 1 mg or 5 mg daily. Taken together, we assume that the increases in estrone and estradiol levels induced by finasteride lead to thrombosis development.
Can anyone who’s a lawyer here comment how Merck’s history with Vioxx will affect the lawsuits for Propecia? I would assume it will be a lot harder for them to play this off as an accident considering the Vioxx scandal.
Also, interesting about the increased levels of estrogens in the brain. This fits in with what has been found in the other studies.
Andddddddd I shall repeat my theory for the 1000th time on this board…finasteride destroyed the progesterone receptors in the brain leaving an imbalance of estrogen to progesterone at the
Receptor site in the BRAIN.

If its so, can they find a solution except time?
Depressed guy- that unfortunately I don’t have an answer. However if research keeps moving along in this direction maybe we will. The all these maniacs on the site telling everyone there secret on how they got better will go away.
I will see this again, bc sometimes I think I’m the only logical person around here, the absolute ONLY common element in all the recoveries is time. Perhaps also a positive attitude and belief they will get better.
I am a little over 2 years off and slowly I am returning to normal as YOU will too. Do t listen to the people who say you won’t get better and improve. My memory is almost back 100 percent, I don’t stumble over words, zero brainfog, I am not nearly as bloated as I was, stomach flat now most of the time, pleasurable ejaculations petty much all the time, waking up horny pretty much each day. I look at girls again like a regular guy. I don’t have that same difficulty in concentration or you know how when you talk to someone you can’t focus and your eyes hurt a little? That’s pretty much gone.
And before those jump in and say “you weren’t as bad as me” well that’s nonsense. I was completely f’d 2 years ago.

Good to hear about all those improvements since this whole thing started for you two years ago.
Just curious about one thing.
What major symptoms are you still getting?
I noticed you said you now get pleasurable ejaculations. This tells me that besides the obvious that you can bust a nut and feel good doing so it’s also telling me you can obtain and keep an erection. With that said what sexual symptoms are you still experiencing?
Thanks for and further explanation you can give.
I also believe that time is the most common element in are recoveries. However It’s difficult for a guy to tell if the time alone fixed him up if he recovered while and or after also taking suppletments or drugs.
