Miconazole Cream changed symptoms?

Hello since september I had to use miconazole Cream for skin fungal. I noticed in october my mood was very good, high libido and I would get extremely hungry. I never linked the Cream to this symptoms because I thought it only can make things worse? I stopped it in December. Or it wasnt the miconazole? Im very confused. If miconazole is a potential Dht blocker it would make things worse in the first place?

Hi @Dtch,

Thanks for sharing. Recent in vitro work has suggested the azole class of drugs is antiandrogenic and potently inhibits steroid synthesis at therapeutic dosages (see Munkboel et al., The classic azole antifungal drugs are highly potent endocrine disruptors in vitro inhibiting steroidogenic CYP enzymes at concentrations lower than therapeutic Cmax, 2019).

One of the most consistent observations across the history of this forum is that antiandrogenic substances sometimes significantly relieve symptoms. I have written about this below and linked the post many times.

In the past weeks, for example, I have read two patients describing notable relief through reuse of finasteride and the AR antagonist Bicalutamide respectively. In a very reductive nutshell, a potential theoretical explanation is that under the pressure of antiandrogenic endocrine disruptors, patients’ somatic cells have aberrantly adapted to an altered hormonal milieu.

Unfortunately this is not remotely safe and many patients experience and have clearly described a persistent worsening following exposure to further antiandrogenic substances, some after describing an initial remarkable improvement. This makes the situation extremely complex and difficult in regards to therapeutic attempts in this direction as the result can be catastrophic in some cases. I had a very interesting call with a specialist in androgen signaling in prostate cancer last night in which we discussed this remarkable situation.

As such until we know more this is unsafe and all we (propeciahelp) can advise regarding this is patients exercise an informed caution with regards to further antiandrogenic endocrine disruptive substances.

Best regards

So I Will get worse now? I already feel much worse lately. For sure this was the reason

And what can I use for skin fungal? Nothing seems safe and the fungal keeps coming back

Im really scared right now. Can miconazole topical Cream cause me to worsen this bad?

I really don’t think so. If these kind of drugs were affecting our whole body, millions of people who take them on a regular basis would be fucked in a major way.

You said you are very scared right now. The feeling of fear is making all this happen and is making you think about the worse case scenario. Can you refocus on other things in life? Can you relax or do something comforting?

I also wonder which cream to use from now? When the arrival of spring I generally get mycosis on the shoulders and back, which goes away only by using a Clotrimazole (Canesten) cream for a couple of days. I never have side effects from this cream, but it seems dangerous, I wonder if a cream with Nystatin (Mycostatin) can work well on mycosis, and it is less dangerous?

As I’ve mentioned topical azole class substances have done so in other members, but patients are extremely heterogenous despite patterns of observation. If you’ve begun feeling worse and that was what prompted the enquiry, there is no reason to expect you’ll get any worse now and I would hope given time you will feel better again. Many patients have had setbacks and returned to their prior situation.

I am unsure of the safety of other antifungal products. In general we advise avoiding antiandrogenic endocrine disruptive substances, as this is the common denominator what are causing people to be here - as well as routinely significantly modulating symptoms. I realise this is not an ideal answer as it isn’t giving you a safe product, but we don’t have all the answers we need at the moment, obviously.

My personal best guess would be to discuss openly with your doctor that you believe you have had an adverse reaction to the antifungal prescribed and ask to be provided with a list of alternatives. That way you could at least do your own searches or ask members here to check if this is a noted property of the substance.

Best regards,

Axo

Thanks for your reply. I got another question. My body hair increased a lot and grows faster and seems darker. Is there any chance the miconazole Cream has to do something with this. Sorry for al the questions but I dont want to make things worse.

How old are you?
What other medications and other things are you taking right now?
What are any meds or things you recently stopped taking?

Body hair growth in men is usually normal-- you are probably just noticing it.

I have looked into it and I really think this Cream had a major influence on my body. The last few months I started noticing that I really felt good and my libido was really high and I started getting hungry a lot. I would eat and eat but I never really was a big eater. I also noticed I was getting really sick sometimes but I thought it were Windows and waves. Now I know it where the cycles when I used the Cream and when I dont use it. Im really scared now because when I dont use it I really get sick and I dont sleep and all my problems with my eyes get really bad. I already have very bad after images and floaters and I thought it just getting worse but I really think the Cream has to do something with it. People who used clomid also getting double vision and after images the same things I get so it have to be something with hormones. I dont know what to do anymore if I stop the Cream I really getting sick. Dont know how long I can take this.

How are you doing now?
