I apologise for the grim nature of this topic, but as the status quo (doctors etc.) are so keen on published data as opposed to anecdotes purloined from the net I thought that some hard facts generated from this website would prove vital. This feels like the best sample of guys who have been hit hard by this drug and who have all found ourselves here at one time or another because of persistent side effects which haven’t diminished over time. Tragically some members reached that point where they couldn’t go on. Off the top of my head I can think of Randy, Daniel, and two English guys in the recent past. If I were to say 5 (it will most probably be more than this) and round the membership up to 4000 then that would make 125 suicides for every 100,000 men. That compares to 16.8 for every 100,000 men, which I took from the 2014 statistics from the U.K. Samaritans website. That means that propeciahelp members are over seven times more likely to complete suicide than the average man. I’m no actuary or statistician so please step in to amend, as the actual total known fatalities would be a number difficult to ignore.
There are much more than 5 suicides.
If you look at this page, there are 59 reported completed suicides attributed to PFS:
pfsfoundation.org/news/finas … reactions/
And these are only the reported ones. I’m sure there are many others that are never reported. I remember when I was very suicidal at the start of my PFS journey, If I had done it at that time, probably no-one would attribute it to Propecia.
Just to put an example, in this thread they talk about a suicide that was never reported: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=11002&p=103060#p103060
True. There was also a podcast where the widow (I think it was Kelly Pfaff) only remembered her husband had taken Propecia, because of a dream by her mother-in-law about hair. Then they began to put the pieces together. I am sure there are dozens if not hundreds of men whose death will never be pinned on PFS. It’s an absolute disgrace and injustice.
I appreciate that there will be many more men who have taken their lives than we will ever know, but if would be good if we knew to the best of our collective knowledge which members have taken their lives (as well as others), as this is irrefutable and also provides statistical evidence. There are also first hand accounts of suffering which is pretty much a smoking gun as far as I see it and would make it hard to dismiss propecia side effects as being a factor in their decision in that they registered on this site and in some cases documented their suffering. This is useful for both the medical profession/pharmacovigilance and media reporting. People too often dismiss lives as anecdotal suffering, or generalised, multi-factory depression, when there is in fact now a body count.
Probably 10,000. Most had no idea fin caused it!
Highly, highly doubt that this is true.
God the topics on this website are even more depressing than they should be for this place given our reasoning from coming here. Coming here everyday like some of you guys do posting this negative bullshit is only making matters worse for you. The website is called Propecia HELP, but I don’t see much help going on anymore. Just a lot of “woe is me”. I know it sucks what happened to us but in order to move forward with your life and have any chance at recovery you’ve got to LET IT GO. Quit making it the central focus of your life.
Focusing on something other people do that is negative and cowardly as suicide is not gonna help anything regarding YOURSELF. There are war veterans who don’t have limbs left, or are paralyzed from the waist down with no chance of “recovering” their sex life and they didn’t take a pill, just defended their country. If they can go through life with NO CHANCE of recovering, you definitely can if you have a chance. Do something! Quit sitting around and feeling sorry for yourself.
