Even the more cautious are falling into this trap

Just something i heard this week, that made me sad.

I have a friend whose father is very cautious about prescription drugs and medical procedures. He has educated his children not to take prescription drugs, or do medical procedures that are not on the market for at least 20-25 years. His argument is that before this period it is not safe to take a drug, and he thinks this time is enough for problems to arise. I heard him talking about his father beliefs, and i immediately thought about propecia.

So let’s think about it. Propecia has been on the market for 16 years. However, Proscar has been on the market for 22 years! It is getting harder to convince people this a dangerous drug, simply because it has been for a long time on the market. People’s immediate thought is “If it s been sold for so long, and it is still on the market, it must be safe.” Most people think like that. Almost no one considers possible for health authorities and doctors to fail so much for so many years, as in the propecia case. Unfortunately we are, as an internet movement, in huge disadvantage trying to convince people otherwise. It is very frustrating for me to see authotities taking sooo loong to do something about this mess! It is very frustrating not seeing more doctors come foward publicly against this medication.
How many people have to become living dead? How many people have to commit suicide? Why isn’t there yet on the leaflet “increased risk of suicide” as a possible side effect?

I agree, at the very least, increased risk of suicide should be on the side effects label

By simply putting, low mood or depression, is insufficient

I am aware that new label revisions are been proposed.

What we should have is some sort of registry. Everyone here should be kept on record with full name and contact information, and give updates at least once a year, preferably twice. More importantly, if anyone chooses to commit suicide, they should be able to send in a letter which explains everything first, or call an answering machine and leave a message. It sounds harsh, but the truth is that people usually have to die before drugs gets pulled off the market - and IMO, drugs that fucks people up so badly that they commit suicide, is a lot worse than drugs that kills people directly. We know that at least one propeciahelp member has committed suicide, but I don’t think he’s the only one.

We should also have some sort of support line that’s open 24/7, because we don’t want members to kill themselves. I’m talking about phone, chat or whatever. Skype could be used. Absolutely everything should be logged and archived, because it may help us build a case later.

There has been a propecia help group since 2003 so its not like this is a new condition. Its just that the general public is not aware of it.
