I still feel there’s a problem in this part. I haven’t seen more of any actual flaking dryness, but my facial skin has certainly become more tight. My doctor said that 5ar2 is also in the skin, so I wouldn’t make things so difficult and include 5ar1 in it. Inhibiting 5ar2 is the problem and it’s found all over the body.
I think the levels of DHT should reflect the state of the skin perfectly. Have you tested for it?
Take a look at my post…

It’s obvious : PROPECIA will dramatically dry and age your skin.
Dry skin is also a problem for me. The way I deal with it is NOT moisturiser but with COCONUT OIL. Believe me this is a far far better way of moisturising your skin than any moisturiser you can buy from a health store, and it’s cheaper. For me dry skin is worst on my limbs and on my abdomen. I’ve read that this is a sympton of a deficiency in DHEA, which is essentially a precursor to testosterone. But don’t just supplement on it as it could further mess with your hormone levels - you need to investigate its possible effects before considering it.
While taking the drug I had to visit a derm regarding this, she said it was dermataitis and seemed to not believe me when I said it was only on my face not scalp. Of couorse I never thought to mention I was taking finasteride which has dry skin as a side, and had had this a bit before fin anyway. I thought I had rosacea too.
It’s got worse since my crash suggesting some sort of DHT problem with sebum production perhaps. I also notice it gets worse when I’m at the computer for any extended period of time, this was also the case when on the drug. Any idea why?
there are a large amount of post about dry skin already. no need for a new thread. its a common side effect.
Hi guys, sorry I know this has question was originally posted years ago, but I am experiencing the same problems and really need help if anyone has found a resolution to this problem.
I am 29 years old, and I experiencing very dry skin after using for propecia for 5 weeks mid last year. While I was on it my skin was extremely dry, and I had to stop it for that reason. I thought that after I stopped using it my skin would just get better, but it has remained dry since I stopped - note it is not as dry as when I was on it, which was extreme, but still a lot worse than it had ever been.
I am also experiencing very low sex drive, which I have also never had before.
I had originally taken propecia because my hair was falling out, which two gp’s confirmed with me. I visited a dermatologist about it later, and found out it was due to stress, as I had a very stressful time last year. I also took roaccutane when I was 17, and my skin has always been a bit dry since I went on that, so I think that may also have something to do with it.
I just got a blood test to test my hormones, and I get the results tomorrow.
If anyone has any answers please let me know, both of these problems are very distressing for me. Thank you.
