Hi guys,

I’m wondering if any of you can relate to this metaphor that I would use to describe PFS. If you think of your body and endocrine system like a manual-transmission car and car engine, the neurosteroids (regulators of the stress response) would be kind of like the rev limiter that prevents your engine from overheating and blowing up.

Finasteride reduces production of neurosteroids so the rev limiter is set too high. While taking Propecia, if something happens to push your bodies stress response or you exert too much pressure on your endocrine system you may end up passing that safe level and your system blows out. Ever since developing PFS, it feels like my entire system doesn’t flow or respond in the normal way it should and the specifics are likely going to be different for everybody.

Even what I have an orgasm, it feels like the response is kind of like a manual transmission that is failing to shift from one gear to the next and it is overall broken.

Does anybody think this is a helpful or relatable metaphor, even if it is vague?

Yes it’s helpful if you’re trying to explain to men why not to take finasteride. There are a lot more stories and warnings than there were several years ago. I remember searching for fin side-effects and not being able to find anything even after scrolling through many pages of google search results even as late as 2007, 2008. I think 2009 was when it became easier and articles in men’s magazines helped but it’s also frustrating when you meet men and think they know more than you because they read one article in a magazine for vain men.
