I’m actually pretty anxious to post here because at the time I had done what I thought was proper research–turns out it wasn’t–and everything was supposedly safe–turns out not everything was, or at the very least, not Propecia.
Well, when I was a teenager (probably around the ages of 15 and 19) I went on two different runs of isotretinoin (accutane) for 6 and 5 months apiece, I do believe. The ONLY side effect I suffered was some very mild form of what might’ve been depression…but I chocked it up to dealing with such dry uncomfortable skin, dry lips, and such annoying acne…and it never caused me to consider anything drastic such as suicide or anything else. I only mention this because I’ve read that isotretinoin is a 5-AR inhibitor (I think) yet to my knowledge I was not made aware of this at the time…and I definitely wasn’t made aware of any lasting sexual sides (that didn’t occur for me anyway).
Fastforward a couple years after my second run of isotretinoin and my biggest concern had become my hair thinning and receding. I started on Ketoconazole (for only a couple weeks), a multivitamin, Rogaine, Saw Palmetto, and 50 mg Zinc in June 2010 and Propecia in July 2010. I dropped the Saw Palmetto a short while after I started Propecia because it smelled and tasted just awful and it also seemed a bit redundant to be consuming so many pills for my hair loss but kept on the multivitamin, 50 mg Zinc, Rogaine, and Propecia regimen. The sides first hit me just under two months after I started Propecia and when they didn’t go away in four days I stopped both it, the multivitamin, and the Zinc. I still, to this day, maintain use of Rogaine because it’s safe…supposedly.
I’m sure I drank a little bit during my two-month run of Propecia but if I did it wasn’t very much or very often…maybe a few drinks two or three days each month; I’ve never been much of a drinker. Also, I don’t know if this would have complicated anything but I believe it was the same day I had my wisdom teeth taken out that I stopped my use of Propecia so anything ingested on or shortly after my last dose would probably be of concern. For that surgery they knocked me out with Nitrous Oxide (I believe) and I took Vicodin and Percocet for painkillers. I also used some anti-inflammatories to help.
I believe that’s all.
