I’m curious as everyone i come across with pfs seems to have taken it for hairloss. Just thinking that if people who take it for their prostate never get pfs that could tell us something. Just a thought…
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. A top in London doctor said to me that it is given out in higher doses like 5mg so why wouldn’t this have shown up earlier. Maybe prostate patients are older and they think it’s part of life. I certainly wouldn;t think this is how a sixty year old should feel. It would be nice to have a prostate patients feedback

Q. I’ve been taking finasteride for more than a year for enlarged prostate. During this time, I have had the normal loss of libido, erectile dysfunction and more recently a strong rigidness (not elastic as before) in the penis during erection that causes the penis to curve. It is a bit uncomfortable in this state and almost useless. My consideration is to quit taking finasteride but wanted to check to see if this is a known side effect to taking it.
A. Loss of libido and impotence are common, but I am not sure whether curving of penis is related to finasteride medication use.
It’s pretty obvious why someone would be curious about something like this.
Old men with BPH or prostate cancer are generally in an age bracket where sexual dysfunction occurs naturally. Therefore, doctors do not pay as much attention to such complaints.
This is in contrast to young healthy men in the prime of their life taking an anti-androgen, undergoing androgen deprivation and experiencing profound changes in their sexual function, and in many cases ending up with hypogonadism. Statistically not only does this seem unlikely, it is almost unheard of in this age bracket – yet introducing an anti-androgen medication has caused these effects, which makes them that much more pronounced in this young group of men.
My husband took it for 2 1/2 years for BPH, he was 45 when he started the drug. He has also experienced the testicular pain, low libido, and loss of interest in things he used to like to do. He stopped taking it about a year ago. While the testicular pain is no longer present, the other issues have not resolved themselves. We’ve not had sex in a year, and for the first year and a half that he was taking it, we may have had it once every 3 months or so. He just recently told me that his passion for me has gone and that he is no longer in love with me. We have been married for 23 years and have 2 children, and this is killing me. I firmly believe that he suffers from PFS, and this is the cause of his lack of passion. Anyway, I know that this forum is for those of you that took the drug for hair loss, but I just had to comment.
Thankyou for posting - I know how difficult it is. Your husband is still in love with you. This poison does horrible things to your mind and everything else. My wife thinks the same of me, nothing could be further from the truth.
I know it does not effect love completely. It does blunt the hell out of your emotions thou… I feel things 1/10 the strength I used too.
Anger, Happiness, Excitement, lust (gone), Determination (don’t know if you consider this an emotion but I used to have a strong sense of wanting to do stuff)
I feel sadness still pretty strongly, especially after a few months off.
But I can still feel love fairly deeply… I know because I fell in love with someone while on it. Fell apart, drug made me a incredibly negative person, ruined my sex drive which in turn made me less affectionate. When I realized that it was the drug that did this to me, it was too late.
Still messed up about this to this day 8 months later now…
this post should be an eye opener for some people who believe 5ARIs only affect a small percentage of poeple. I have seen so far two out of three males who got effected after using fin.Is it just coincidence 2/3 got affected? It is a big lie I think very many people get affected but are denied by their doctors and put on anti-depressants which make their problems worse (did not many of us were told to use or put on anti-depressants by our doctors? I was pushed many times and thanks God refused to use.) and they keep dealing with complex issues the rest of their lives . We need an open discussion on TV or News papers to discuss this. The people reporting on this forum are maybe 1/10,000,000 who used 5ARI.
thank you finasteridewidow. Please spread the words about fin use, and you should know that herbal stuff Saw pametto is not safe either. It is used for the same purpose and causes the same sides.
if you have prostate cancer you would take the drug and stay on the drug regaudless of sexual problems im sure. These would be side effects worth having if it saves your life. I think they take 4mg pills as opposed to procepia which has just 1mg. It goes to show the doesage or time on the drug really is irrelevant. Whatever fin (at 1mg, 0.5mg or 4mg) does is the cause of our problems.
Except that finasteride is now associated with a hath grade, aggressive form of prostate cancer. So you might be replacing something less aggressive for something more aggressive.

he took Proscar for 17 days for his prostate , strong “crash”.
He quitted 13 years ago, no recovery.
he had a big inflammation in his genitals back then, now his pudendal nerve is “trapped” in calcifications( due to this ancient inflammation),
he his impotent now.
I just don’t understand the FDA. How can it allow a medication for hairloss which can cause high grade prostate cancer. It is official that Propecia can cause high grade prostate cancer and the FDA does nothing. What is wrong with that authority that should protect people from risks.
yes man I am coming to conclusion that there is no solution for us. We can get temp relief only by using herb,vitamins etc.
