Cortisol question

Why isent cortisol measured free?

Every other hormone that is bound to some globulin is measured in a free state as thats whats considered available for the body.

Yet i never c free cortisol testing in serum?

Only way to get free cortisol is to do saliva?

My endo couldent awnser this question for me, he just said he would check…

Anyone know? is it just to hard to measure or similar?

Troubledfinuser2,

The saliva test is not the only way to measure cortisol

You can also do a cortisol stimulation test or a ACTH stimulation test. I had this done. They test your blood levels of cortisol first by drawing blood. They then inject some type of cortisol into your body. They then draw blood twice at different time intervels to see how your body handles the cortisol. Your endo dr should definitely know about this.

Hey Boston i know your trying to help and thanks but wtf lol.

In 3 different threads i explained to you how cortisol stim test works and its not cortisol they inject… Its acth that tells you to start producing cortisol! Then the evaluation is done by measuring the reponse!

Ive had it done aswell and we have talked about this in other threads.
Ive done cortisol testing in blood and saliva aswell. Blood is just total cortisol, saliva is suppose to be free cortisol…

The Question is why is there not a “free cortisol” blood (serum) test available? All other important hormones we / doctors talk about free numbers so why not for cortisol?

Welcome to the wonderful world of endocrinology, with its incompetent doctors that see themselves as knowing it all but can’t fix anything, some blood tests that can’t be taken precisely and many other incredible wonders.

I ve been told by a couple of doctors that no doctor wants to deal with adrenal diseases. Science simply doesn’t know enough yet about the adrenal glans, but no one will admit this to you.

Geesh, that’s depressing.

so…if you had a high Cortisol test reading (blood)…what is there do? Yoga?? Anything to manage stress? Or is it a bigger warning sign? What level score is outrageous, what is just an indicator of stress?

I’ve updated my tests in the labwork link below.

Thanks,
